East Side

Aptly named, Downtown Lancaster's East Side neighborhood is located on the east quadrant of the city between New Holland Avenue and Lincoln Highway (PA 462).

The market price for homes in this area ranges from $130,000 to $300,000. Most houses in the area are townhouses or row homes with front porches and narrow backyards. Much like the rest of the city, these houses were built before 1959 and are primarily constructed out of brick.

East Side is part of the School District of Lancaster (SDoL) which includes 12 elementary schools, 4 middle schools, and 1 high school (JP McCaskey High School). The School District of Lancaster, also known as SDoL to locals, is comprised of a diverse student body. They are one of only 13 school districts in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania which offers the world-renowned Baccalaureate Diploma Program. Students who complete this program earn college credits that will help them complete their desired degree/certificate at vocational schools after their time at McCaskey.

As far as dining hotspots go, East Side has a plethora of local culinary favorites that are just a few blocks away. From a flavor-packed dinner at Caribbean Wave Jamaican Jerk Restaurant to fresh craft beer courtesy of Lancaster Brewing Company, residents don't have to travel far for a delicious meal. Horse Inn, a local favorite on East Fulton St., was also recently nominated for a James Beard culinary award! 

East Side also houses both Reservoir Park and Musser Park, which offer a street hockey rink, a wading pool, basketball courts, playgrounds, pavilions, and large grassy areas between the two. Other perks to living in this area include easy access to Routes 30, 501, 222, and 272. Convenience stores like Turkey Hill Gas Station and Rite Aid are centrally located in the area as well.
